Pilgrimage tour to Bhutan & Sikkim


This tour is mainly focus on the Buddhist pilgrim sites which were blessed by Guru Rinpoche and many other Tibetan Yogis including Karmapa in Bhutan and Sikkim. During this pilgrimage tour, you will almost visit most of the pilgrim places and monasteries dated back from the 7th century in Bhutan, Sikkim, Kalimpong and Darjeeling (West Bengal). Of course, we will visit other interesting places too but we skip some tourist spots to save our time. This tour is more suitable for who really wants to see Buddhist places throughout Bhutan and India. Interestingly, You will be guided by a Tibetan or Bhutanese lama who will explain us in detail about each place and monastery in India. You will be able to interact with monks and see how they spend their daily life in monastery. Furthermore, you will see the two different culture and tradition of Bhutan and Sikkim.

Tour itinerary

Day 1: Paro-Thimphu
Arrival in Paro. We drive to Thimphu visiting one monastery on the way. After lunch, we visit Simtokha Dzong which is one of the oldest fortresses in Bhutan. It was built in 1629 AD. It houses the largest monastic schools in the country. We visit library, art school.

Day 2: Thimphu
We visit Buddha point where is the biggest sitting Buddha. We visit Changgangkha Lhakhang, Pangri Zampa monastery where monks study astrology. We also visit the main Bazaar. Walking excursion to the memorial stupa in the evening.

Day 3: Thimphu-Punakha

We drive to Punakha where we visit Punakha Dzong which was built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to serve as the religious and administrative seat of the region. It was here that the dual system of government was introduced in the 17th century and in 1907, enthroned the first King Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck. Chimi lhakhang was founded by the divine madman also known, as Drukpa Kinley who was a famous teacher with the phallic symbol is associated.

Day 4: Paro
After breakfast, excursion to The National Museum (Ta-Dzong) which was actually the Watch Tower of the Paro Rinchen Pong Dzong. It was converted to the National Museum in l968. Visit the Rinchen Pong Dzong which was built in 1645 AD.

Day 5: Paro
We start to hike to Taktsang Monastery. The name Taktsang means " Tiger's Nest ". The Monastery is perched on a rocky ledge with a sheer drop of nearly 4,000 ft. and offers an excellent view of Paro valley. It is said that in the second half of the 8th century, Guru Padma Sambhava meditated in the spot where the Monastery is situated, having alighted there on the back of a flying tigress. Picnic lunch at the Taktsang cafeteria.

Day 6: Paro-Gangtok (Sikkim)
Early morning, we drive to Paro and fly to Bagdogra. We will drive (109 km/4 hrs) to Gangtok from Bagdogra airport. We will drive through numerous towns and villages. In the evening, walking excursion around the one of the cleanest city in India.

Day 7: Gangtok-Rumtek
We drive to Rumtek. Rumtek monastery is the biggest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Sikkim. Also visit Old Rumtek Monastery and Nunnery which is located 2km from here. After lunch, we drive back to Gangtok and visit palace monastery, Dodrul stupa and Enchey monastery.

Day 8: Gangtok-Phodong
We drive to Phodong and visit Phodong monastery, the one of the oldest monastrey of Karma Kagyu School. Later we visit Phensang monastery and Labdrang monastery of Nyingma school. The Labdrang monastery is one of the first monastery in Sikkim.

Day 9 Gangtok-Pelling
We drive to Pelling and visit Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest Nyingma Monastery in Sikkim and Rabdentse palace of the past kingdom of Sikkim until the year 1814.

Day 10: Pelling-Bagdogra

Early morning we drive to Bagdogra airport and fly to Delhi at noon.
