Descending of the Lord Buddha

posted on 04/11/2015 by Natalia Wangdi

Yesterday was a special day in Bhutan, "the descending of the Lord Buddha day". Most people spend that day by visiting monastery and some sacred places to receive blessing from the lamas and rinpoches since it was a public holiday. That day is also declared as a Mother Day in Bhutan. Each and every monastery held a special ceremony on this occasion around Bhutan.

We visited Tashichodzong and the Memorial Stupa yesterday. We had an opportunity to see the giant silk embroider scroll painting (kuthang) of the Gyalsay Tenzin Rabgay Rinpoche at the court yard of the Tashichodzong. Thousands of people got blessing from it. In the memorial stupa, people were queued almost a kilometre to get initiation from the Rinpoche. Unfortunately, we could not go inside since there is no place to step, especially with kids. Anyway, we enjoyed from distance.
